3 natural hair communities worth following on the Gram
Posted on 29 November 2016
Let’s admit it, from time to time as a natural hair girl there are some days when we all need a little natural hair pick me up; whether it’s seeing our favourite kinky, curly haired Instagrammer wearing a magnificent, stylish wash and go, or being able to see other melanin-ated queens rocking their itty, bitty, teeny, nappy fro; a time when representation matters even more, our generation have been provided excellent platforms through social media that allow us to stand out and be unapologetically Black and Natural!
One such platform is Instagram where many queens have created spaces and communities exclusively for US, showcasing strong, empowered, melaninated queens rocking their natural hair: giving us motivation, inspiration or just straight up giving us life with their images. So if you’re looking for a bit of inspo or whatever you need to get you through that awkward transitioning phase or trying to figure out what to do with your TWA, look no further; here are 3 natural hair communities on the Gram that is definitely worth taking a look at and following.
First up is @naturallyshesdope; with a whopping 320k followers, Jersey girl LaToya and her dope community, dishes stylistic pics of melaninated beauties from all around the globe daily, leaving us all eagerly waiting for her next post. It is only natural that the #hastag itself “#naturallyshesdope” has garnered such great use for many naturals on Insta as it plays on the word “naturally” and the overall concept 80-90s hip hop term of “dope” to illustrate black natural haired females being authentically awesome!
Another fave coming in with nearly 12k followers is @kinks2kurls, dedicated to sharing information about natural hair, kinks2curls showcases a melange of curlies from dread heads to loose curls of all textures. To be featured tag @kinks2curls
Finally, but by all means not least @allnaturalqueens. A small but mighty natural hair community lead by head Queen Amber Harris is certainly making a big splash on IG for naturals, even with its recent arrival on the scene. Gathering followers daily, this community aims to: uplift, educate and inspire natural hair women worldwide. In addition to the pics and tips offered on the their page, they take it to another level by bringing us more in depth hairspiration with their blog www.allnaturalqueens.org providing educational and empowering articles as well as highlighting natural curlies and their natural hair journeys.
