4 Natural Hairstyles that we loved in 2017
Posted on 08 January 2018
The year 2017 was filled with natural hairstyles and looks that were definitely swoon worthy, however there were a few of them that personally made the short list for my most beloved natural hairstyles and looks for 2017. They are as follows:
Fulani Braids and beads
Despite the cultural significance to the Fulani Tribe of Africa; these braids were made popular in the Western world back in the 90s, with the debut of Alicia Keys who rocked them steadily for the early portion of her career. We first saw the beautiful intricate braiding pattern in her debut video Fallen; interestingly some people were there for it and some weren’t; then suddenly a resurgence in 2017. While I wasn’t totally there for them in the 90s because I was so feeling my Janet Jackson Poetic Justice braids, I’m totally here for them now.

Whether its high or low, sleek or messy, textured ponytails were just everything in 2017 and without a doubt the look will carry on into 2018. The great thing about the textured ponytail its that it definitely doesn’t have to be perfect nor does it really matter if your own hair is long enough to achieve the look, if not you can always grab yourself some kinky curly hair extensions to complete your look et viola!

Sexy Flexi-Rod Set Curls
In my opinion, nothing says sexy like a flexi-rod set. Big voluminous curls that can be transitioned from huge curl outs to high puffs are divine. This is one of my favourite look for natural hairstyles of 2017, Flexi-rod setting natural hair not only stretches your hair for days, it give this voluminous look that can be perfect for everyday wear as well as a special occasion.

Natural hair updo
This is definitely one look that I can never tire off. Whether its a blown out stretched updo like Teyonah Parris' or a braided or two stranded twisted up do like Issa Rae the beauty and elegance of a natural hair updo is timeless.
