Heavenly Hair - Natural Hair looks at the 2018 Met Gala
Posted on 11 May 2018
Last week for the 2018 Met Gala, we were all about it's 2018 theme: "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination", and as per usual our focus was mostly on what everyone was wearing: the stunning gowns, the suits, the capes, the crosses, the Popes, the Madonnas, the Joan of Arcs and all of the symbolisms that went along with them; but can we all take a moment and talk about the heavenly natural kinky hair looks that graced the red carpet? Yes hunty, these natural hair beauties slayed the red carpet with their heavenly, dare I say magical (in the same sentence) natural kinky curly hair; looks for the red carpet that we just couldn't ignore.
1. Awkward Black Girl, Issa Rae
Known for rocking her natural kinky curly hair on screen, for Issa, the 2018 Met Gala would be no different. Styled by natural hair celebrity hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood, Issa rocked the already extremely popular Fulani inspired braided look, adorned with beads and shells fit for the gods.
2. Kerry Washington
Ok so we know that Kerry’s hair can sometimes be a hit or miss for some of these celebrity events, but I will be the first to say that I loved her hugely kinky curly wig she sported on the red carpet. The wig was big, it had texture and loads of volume adorned with a beautiful hair accessory that added just enough bling to tie her backless dress look together. This kinky wig epitomized the popular adages, the bigger the hair the harder the stare, and another, the higher the hair, the closer to god.
3. Yara Shahidi
Black-ish and Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi killed her look with a classic, sleek, and incredibly long, kinky curly attention getting ponytail. This 60" textured kinky curly ponytail look was styled by celebrity hairstylist Nai'vasha Johnson, by adding natural kinky curly extensions.
4. Solange Knowles
I couldn't end this listicle without the honourable mentions of Solange the Great, serving us all with her blonde braided halo that made her look celestial coupled with a du-rag; why the du-rag you might ask? Simply, because her god wears a du-rag! Yassss! Come through Solange.
